Tell us a little about yourself:

I grew up in Utah's Salt Lake Valley and began taking a minor interest in photography when I was about 17 years old. This interest grew the following year when I took a photo class at USU.

Are you an amateur or a pro photographer?

I'd consider myself an amateur.

What do you like to photograph?

My favorite is outdoor photography. After that, I'd have to say unposed shots of people.

What is in your photography kit?

Currently, I'm only using a Nikon P-1000 with a 26X lens.

What's your favorite lens?

I once owned a 400 mm lens that I loved using on wildlife. I really like using a 28mm lens, however, because it distorts just enough for interesting wide (but close) shots.

Any favorite photographer(s)?

Rick Egan with the Salt Lake Tribune. I also loved the work of Erwin Bauer.

Which is your own favorite picture?

My all-time favorite photo was of an old Irishman someone on a backroad in County Killarney. We'd become lost and we stopped to ask directions of this gentlemen. He was wearing a flat cap, a sweater, Wellington boots, and he had this great Killarney accent. He kindly told us how to find our way back to the main road. My mother, who was sitting in the front seat, leaned over and asked if we could take his photo. I was dying to ask the same question but probably never would have. I took a full frame of his face. To me, it captures all that I love about Ireland, the Irish, the countryside, the history of the people.

What is your dream?

I'd like to publish a photo book about Ireland using my own photos and my own limericks.

Any advice or great tips to share?

In this wonderful digital age, take thousands of photos from every angle you can think of. Bring your camera everywhere and don't be afraid to ask the old Irishman by the side of the road if you can take his picture. The worst that can happen is he'll say no.
